Alexis Magazine welcomes... well, me!

Click here to view my column in Alexis Magazine.

Hello and welcome to my side of the block. I’m Audrey. Or better known as the bargain hunter, shark advocate and the girl who has a penchant for lomography and anything handmade, from the past or out of the norm. I’m a lot of things but mostly just a simple gal with an aspiration. In pursuit of my young upstart’s dreams of encouraging a new trend from the monochrome-clad and career driven crowd that is Singapore today, here is where you’ll find all that inspire, delight and question. I also purport to be a rising platform for emerging designers and artists through my knack for words. A huge thanks to Alexis for bringing me on board! I am terribly honoured to be a part of what I think is the most relatable magazine on our local shelves. So come join me on my journey in search for our little town’s hidden talents and traits. I think we are off to a good start!

Spotted: When not rushing for deadlines, I can be found happily plugged in while putting my Holga to good use!

sharks are friends, not food... part 2.

After much wait, as mentioned previously, here's part 2 of my shark finning article published in Reportage Enviro. Comments will be much appreciated. :)

my life in b/w

A string of evocative photographs captured on B/W film with my Holga. If you look closely, the black stains on the photos are actually caused by a loose sponge in my Holga that rubbed against the film every time I wind it. I really like it though, there's sorta like a grungy touch to it. A fortunate accident indeed.

Visit my gallery to view more of my shots. I was even considering of publishing my own zine to showcase my works. Who knows...

sharks are friends, not food!

Omg omg omg!!! I can hardly contain myself so I'm just gonna let it out here! I've been waiting for this moment for about 3 months now, and FINALLY, my first-ever feature story gets published under the headlines section of Reportage Enviro! I mean this is like mega huge to me, which really is the most satisfying part of my profession - I now have a voice that is finally heard.

In a nutshell, my story unveils the truth about sharks, that they are simply misunderstood and are in desperate need for attention. Ironically, WE slay millions of them a year and yet, nothing much is being said or done. A person dies from a shark attack and it immediately triggers fear and panic in our hearts. Who to say is fair? We claim autonomy for ourselves and disregard everything else. People seriously need to shake off the naive thought and realise that sharks are in fact so important to our planet's survival - our survival. Wake up people! As long as shark fin soup continues to stay on the menu, we are literally killing ourselves. That's the truth.

Read about my personal encounter with a three-metre great white shark here. Oh and surprise? I'm still very very much alive, thank you! Part 2 of the article will be published tomorrow. Alternatively you may view the full story right here on my website.

a newfangled endeavour

I've been working on this little project for the last couple of weeks. It's a brief for a G-shock print-ad for Lodown Magazine. Frankly speaking, I am relatively new to the parameters of photoshop. So, like any inquisitive child who has just been handed a new "toy", I pretty much messed around with every application that ensued with "ooh-s" and "aah-s". And before I knew what I was doing - BOOM! - this happened. Just like that. Given time, there's still room for tweaking but the base concept is there.
